Earlier we had maps, now we have GPS, earlier we had letters now we have E-mail, earlier we had telephones and now we have smart phones. A smart phone is a compact telephone device which has the features and programs of the things, a mobile phone and a computer. It is very useful for the professionals who want a regular access to internet. The compact size of smart phones makes them very handy and fit for every pocket.
Similar to computers, smart phones also have an operating system, processor and storage memory. The first ever smart phone was launched by IBM and was known as “Simon”. Though it was not a very high quality product, but it set a standard and casted a pathway for the development of smart phones. In the later period of time several mobile company giants launched their respective smart phones, Nokia, Blackberry, Windows mobile and Erickson are to name some.
The biggest leap in the smart phone generation came when Apple Inc. launched “iPhone”, the first touch screen smart phone. IPhone was followed by other smart phones like “HTC touch”, by HTC Ltd., and LG Prada by LG. After observing the consumer response and market share, Apple Inc. launched a modified version of iPhone in 2008, Google Inc. launched its “Nexus One” in 2010, which works on Android operating system and most recently in October 2010, mobile company HTC Ltd. along with the collaboration of Microsoft corp. has launched a new smart phone called Windows Phone HTC HD 7, which has Windows Phone 7 as its operating system. The windows phone 7 is upgraded version of Windows Mobile 7 operating system which was unable to get a hold in the market due to its unfriendly features; though windows mobile 7 is now available as windows mobile 6.5.
An operating system is the key factor of any smart phone and the widely used operating system in the smart phones is “Symbian”. World’s largest manufacturer of operating systems, Microsoft Corp. has designed Windows phone 7 to compete with Symbian and is hopeful to capture the global market of smart phones by its new smart phone launch, the Windows Phone HTC HD 7.
